Ali Agoumi is an academic consultant and senior expert and former Partner at Climatekos with over twenty years of experience in the field of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Aside from his home country Morocco the focus of his work is the Maghreb, West Africa and the Middle East.
Ali contributed to the preparation of climate change policy, the elaboration of climate change institutional frameworks and the development of related national capacities. For more than 5 years, he coordinated activities and represented a climate change project developer and consultancy in Morocco, being involved in consulting assignments and the development and implementation of mitigation projects and adaptation consultancy assignments. Ali was the National Project Coordinator of the UNEP CD4CDM project on the reinforcement of national capacities for CDM development and implementation in Morocco.
During this period, Ali also participated in various climate change capacity development assignments in North Africa and the Middle East. Beforehand Ali was Director of a Maghreb UNDP capacity building project to meet the challenges of climate change and identify opportunities that may arise in this area for the region. He participated in early climate change studies in Morocco, including the greenhouse gas emissions inventory in Morocco with GERERE on behalf of the Ministry of Environment/UNEP in 1994. Ali is fluent in English, French and Arabic. He received the UNDP Medal for Human Development in 2005 for his works on climate change.
