Our work
The report aimed to mainstream climate change issues into EU budget programmes and financial instruments. In order to improve the current approach and processes, a new study for the European Commission’s DG CLIMA reviewed the current MFF and provided recommendations for potential options along with key findings and methodology analysis. Climatekos together with Ricardo Energy and Environment, Trinomics and IEEP prepared different elements of the review (mainstreaming, inputs, outputs, results), along with a further report assessing the investment needs associated with the EU’s climate targets.
The study also recommended options for the improvement of the overall climate mainstreaming process for the post-2020 MFF, which will be important to reflect on the EU’s long-term climate objectives – the 2030 and 2050 climate targets – and to ensure that these are also aligned with the aims of the Paris Agreement.
